Day 7
This day we explored the city of Luxembourg until our train in the late afternoon to Rennes, France.
Thankfully one of the pharmacists spoke English. When I told him my symptoms, these were the two things he recommended. One a tablet to dissolve in water once a day for my cough. The other a spray for my throat that I could use up to six times per day.
After the pharmacy, we ate breakfast at the hotel, checked out of the hotel, left our luggage there and then went on our way to explore the city until our train later that day.
This was on our way to our first stop of the day, the Bock Casemates. That walk to our first stop was beautiful!

The Bock Casemates are a series of tunnels that were initially carved out in the 17th Century for defense purposes.
But being in the tunnels, it didn’t seem that was actually the case. There were places we went up and down stairs but we ended up back where we were at the beginning. It was a little confusing. There were some signs in the tunnels but they weren’t very helpful.
We mainly stayed in the main part of the tunnels.
There was one path we took, though, where we didn’t see anyone else and there were lots of stairs and the tunnels were narrower and it didn’t have windows and there were no signs and all of that combined made me a little nervous. I just wanted to get back to the main area where there were people and wider tunnels again. I didn’t take any pictures on that path.
We finished exploring the Bock Casemates and continued on our way.
We ran into Eglise Saint-Michel. It’s a fairly small church but it was nice inside.
I bought postcards at Vianden Castle the day before. I wrote and addressed them the evening before and found this post office box to send them this day. (At least I hope it was a post office box. I wasn’t entirely certain, but I think it was 😎.)
They have tours of the building but only during the summer time so unfortunately, we weren’t able to go inside.

As we were walking around, we ran into this bridge, Pont Adolphe. Of course we had to walk across it!
But first we stood in this location and admired the scenery all around. It was so beautiful and it was such a nice day!
When we got across the bridge, this building was there. I really liked it!
I never could figure out what this building was though and after doing some research I still can’t figure it out.
I think I’ve mentioned in previous blogposts that I like streets that are pedestrian/bicycle streets only and this was one of those streets!
We made it to the elevator! We caught the elevator at the top and rode it down. Hung out at the bottom for a little bit and then rode back up. (The picture above was at the bottom of the elevator).

Inside the elevator! There were pretty awesome views from the elevator! I didn’t take many pictures since we were moving but it was cool.
After we rode the elevator back to the top, we hung out in this park for a little bit.
I needed some rest and we were talking about what to do next. We had a little bit of time but not a ton of time before we needed to head back to the hotel and pick up our luggage and then head to the train station.

We decided to go to this museum to finish off our time in Luxembourg.
We did a highlight tour of the museum, used the toilets, then made our way back to our hotel to pick up our luggage.
I enjoyed the day in Luxembourg! I thought it was a beautiful city full of history. And the weather was great this day!
Since we liked the baguettes we bought at the train station the day before, we ended up buying some again this day.
We made it to the train in plenty of time in Luxembourg, but we had to transfer two times, once in Metz, France and once in Paris, France.
The transfer in Metz is where I injured my leg. We made it to our train platform in Metz but we couldn’t tell which part of the train to get on so we were walking back and forth between the front and back of the train on the platform and it still wasn’t clear. (Although with many of the cars you could walk between them while on the train, there were some cars that you couldn’t so we had to get on the right part of the train in order to sit in the right seats).
I finally found someone to ask for help but at that point the train was about to leave so we needed to run to get to the right part of the train. Since I had a large backpack and my purse on, I hurt my leg. I limped the rest of the trip and for many days afterwards. (Sometimes it hurt more than at other times).

Also it was really annoying because our transfer in Paris required us to switch train stations. (That’s the way the train website booked our tickets.)
The train stations were 6.4 kms apart. That might not seem very far apart but in center Paris traffic, that is far! We could’ve tried taking the metro but we didn’t really want to carry our luggage on the crowded Paris metro, so we ended up getting a taxi.
And even though we had a little over an hour to get 6.4 kms we still missed our train to Rennes. (But we did get to see the Eiffel Tower from the taxi.)
Thankfully though, there was another train to Rennes about 45 minutes later and we were able to exchange our tickets for a small fee.
Overall it was a good day! I enjoyed visiting Luxembourg and the train rides weren’t bad once we found our seats.
