Tracting in a Winter Wonderland!

Here's a story from my mission that I had to write for something else but thought I would share here... Enjoy!
I served my mission in Ukraine and I was told that that winter I was there was the coldest winter that they had had in a long time. The temperature got down to -40 degrees Fahrenheit in the city I was serving in that winter. The apartment that my companion and I were living in during that time did not have a heater. To be even somewhat warm while sleeping, we had to use our wool blankets and wear our coats, fleece pajama bottoms, thermals, gloves, hats, socks etc. to bed. Even with all those layers, I still remember being cold in the night.

In order to stay warm during our study time in the mornings, we would go into the kitchen, close the door, light the gas oven and stove, and sit in front of the stove. We hoped that having the gas appliances on without using them wouldn't kill us, but we decided it was worth the risk, because they kept us warm! (Maybe that wasn't the smartest idea, but hey we lived to tell the tale.)

We didn't have many investigators at the time so we were knocking on doors a majority of the time, which meant we were outside a lot during this cold part of the winter. Although it was so cold outside, most people still did not let us in, (they probably just thought we were crazy people for being out in the cold in the first place). Basically my companion and I were in a constant state of coldness until some blessed soul would invite us in.

When I look back on this time on my mission, I have fond memories of the fascinating people we met and the experiences we had, even if I was shivering through it all.
