On Wednesday night, my roommate Kara said her friend,Lisa, had an extra ticket to see the National Tree Lighting Ceremony on the Ellipse in front of the White House the next day. At first I said no, then Kara convinced me I should go and that it is hard to get tickets and it would be worth it... I decided to go.
I am glad I did!
We had seats, for which I was grateful! (There were lots of people with standing tickets). And look at the view to the left. The white house.
Look at the view to the front. The stage and the National Christmas Tree. (Although I didn't get a picture, to the right was the Washington Monument.)
We noticed as we were watching the White House that there were snipers on the roof. Also you can't really see it in this picture but the motorcade was sitting in front of the house ready to take President Obama and his family to the ceremony. They didn't have far to go and yet they still had to drive. I mean I understand why, it just makes me laugh :)
Our host, Carson Daly! He wasn't on the stage with most of the other performers, but he stood not very far from us. I was very excited about that one :)
Kermit the Frog was there with Santa Clause! I loved them. They made me laugh!
Michelle Obama and Kermit read T'was the Night Before Christmas.
This is right after the Obama family flipped the switch to turn on the Christmas Tree. It's a new tree this year because the one they've had for a long time got damaged in a storm, so they planted this new one to take the place of the old one.
President Obama gave a short message about the real meaning of Christmas, which was actually quite good.
Big Time Rush! A really good, cute boy band!
One Republic! He's the lead singer. I was very excited about this band being there! I like a lot of their songs!
One Republic on stage!
Besides Big Time Rush and One Republic, the other performers there were the Jersey Boys, Marsha Ambrosius, Rodney Atkins, Ellie Goulding, the Tribe of Judah Choir and the United States Air Force Airmen of Note.
All of the performers were awesome! The singing performers sang one Christmas song each, except for One Republic who sang two. The U.S. Air Force Airmen of Note played a bit at the beginning while we were waiting for the ceremony to start and then at the end as we were leaving.
Lara, this self-portrait is for you.
Oh and how could I forget that we all got to sing some Christmas songs too! Overall it was a fun experience! I am glad that Lisa had an extra ticket and that Kara convinced me to go. It was awesome!

Sounds like such a great experience AL! I'm glad you had the opportunity to go. I find it interesting that they plant the tree that they light.
